The City of Cape Girardeau is asking residents and groups to help clean up local parks and green spaces, according to an announcement published Oct. 8. The city said volunteers can take part in a one-time cleanup or make park cleanup an ongoing effort.

The city said residents may also include picking up litter during a regular walk, and that it can support cleanup events. People seeking a cleanup kit should complete the form linked on the city’s Pitch in for Parks page, according to the announcement. The city asks applicants to allow at least two business days for review and a response.

Cleanup kits may include trash grabbers, bags, vests and gloves, the city said. Kits can be picked up and returned during regular business hours, and city staff will collect filled trash bags, according to the announcement.

The city identified Capaha Park, Cape LaCroix Trail and Arena Park as areas needing help. It also listed painting skate park equipment at Missouri Park as a high-need project. More information is available at cityofcape.org/pitchinforparks, the city said.
